Artist’s Statement

My work stems from lots of observational work. Growing up in Missoula, Montana much of what I did was inspired from my interaction with nature. I often create with color palettes from memories of natural scenes, such as campsites at dusk, and logs full of beetle holes. While some of my work is done with genuine intentions and filled with emotions, many of my cartoonish characters and drawings are simply done in the moment and for fun.

I have never stuck to one medium, I create with the things that feel good at the time. If I’m feeling more expressive and emotional I tend to go for watercolor or gouache. If I feel lighthearted and am hoping to create for fun I always go for markers or digital media.

I have created art my whole life beginning with crayon drawings in preschool and continuing all the way up to the current me in college using materials with silly names, like gesso and gouache. Art is something for me to unwind with after a long day, a way to express my intense emotions about heavy topics, and most importantly is something I have fun with.
